Theme Project: Create a museum that teaches visitors about the many people in the United States

1. Who Are We? Look through magazines, newspapers, books, and study images in films and on television of different kinds of people living in the United States and the places they live. Try to answer the question, “Who are the people in the United States?” Make notes to help answer the question on the lines below.

2. How Does Our Government Work? Do research to find out how our government works. Write down what you learn here. Use another piece of paper if necessary.

3. A Quotation Do some research on the Internet or in books of quotations to find a quotation from a speech, essay, poem, or song that you think describes the people in the United States and how they live and work together. Write the quotation below. Don't forget to write down the name of the person who made the quotation.

4. Plan Your Exhibit Think about how you want to show and tell about the American people. What kinds of pictures, words, or objects will you have in your museum? Make a list of items you want to include in your exhibit.

5. Build the Exhibit Decide how you want to arrange the items in your exhibit. You may want to create a large poster on which you can paste the pictures, maps, drawings, etc. Use stencils to add the quotation to the poster, too. Add a title or hang a banner. Arrange items you don't put on the poster on a table around the poster.

6. Share Your Work Display your exhibit with your classmates' to make a “We the People Museum.” Discuss the items in your exhibit with other students.
