2. Plan the Model Before you begin work, make a sketch of your model to help plan it out. Draw your sketch on the back of this worksheet or on a separate piece of paper. Be sure to show where each of the items you listed above will appear.

3. Gather the Materials Think about what the features of your community look like. Make a list of the materials you will use to model each one. List the materials you want to use, below. Then use your list to help you collect the materials.

4. Make Your Model Using your lists of features, materials, and your sketch, create your model. Make labels for each feature from oaktag or cardboard. If you wish, you may also add a key to your model, to show which features are rivers, road, lakes, mountains, etc.
