Lesson at a Glance
Unit 4, Lesson 3: Trucks (pp. 104-107)
The Big Idea
Framework Concepts: Similarities/Differences Students learn about
trucks, travel, and the role of a truck driver.
- Have a volunteer point to the different trucks shown on
Big Book page 21. Discuss how these trucks are the same and
different from the 18-wheel truck shown on Big Book page 22.
Then discuss the purpose of each truck and what kind of goods each might carry.
Check for Understanding
- Have students imagine they have a job driving a truck.
What kind of truck do they drive? Do they work for someone
or themselves? What goods do they carry? Have each student
share his or her ideas about being a truck driver.
- Have students make a chart that shows two types of
trucks--those with two wheels and those with four wheels.
They can cut out pictures from magazines and newspapers to
complete their charts.
