The World I See
Lesson at a Glance
Unit 4, Lesson 2: From Here to There (pp. 100-103)
The Big Idea
Framework Concept: Transportation Students learn about and
classify forms of transportation that help to move things and people
from place to place.
- Have students look again at Big Book pages 19 and 20. Ask:
What vehicles do you see in the illustrations? (cart, bicycle,
bus, ferry) Have students brainstorm other kinds of vehicles people
use to get from place to place or to move things from one place
to another. Sketch on the board the types of vehicles children
suggest. (trucks, moving vans, taxis, etc.) If students mention
impractical methods of transportation, discuss when one vehicle
might be better transportation than another.
Check for Understanding
- Have students make up new verses for the refrain to
"The Wheels on the Bus" by substituting "bus" for another vehicle.
- Students can work together to paint of draw a
mural that shows many different kinds of trucks.
Students can take turns explaining the similarities
and differences among the trucks they portray.
