The World I See
Lesson at a Glance
Unit 2, Lesson 6: Our Neighborhood (pp. 52-55)
The Big Idea
Framework Concepts: Neighborhood and Differences Neighborhoods change at different times of the year.
- Display Poster 3. Have students tell whether this neighborhood is similar to or different from the neighborhoods of The Little House. Then have students tell which time of year -- spring, winter, summer, or fall -- they think this picture shows. Have students give reasons for their responses.
Check for Understanding
- Invite students to create a language experience story about what changes they see occurring in their neighborhood. Ask students to compare the changes they see in their community to those in Virginia Lee Burton's story The Little House.
- Have students find neighborhood pictures in other stories or in magazines. Suggest they try to find a story or pictures of a neighborhood representing each of the four seasons.
