The World I See
Lesson at a Glance
Unit 2, Lesson 4: We Grow and Change (pp. 44-47)
The Big Idea
Framework Concepts: Self and Differences Students consider how we grow and change.
- Reread the poem "The End" on page 45. Then have students think of their own second stanza for each verse. For example, line one, "When I was One," would be followed with students' responses for line two, "I had just begun." Write their responses on chart paper, and read aloud their class poem about growing. Use it to discuss how they have grown and changed.
Check for Understanding
- Invite students to make a picture timeline showing how they have grown and changed from age 1 to age 5 or 6.
- Give students strips of paper to make a paper chain. Label the strips 1-6. (Students who are currently five receive five strips.) Students should draw a picture on each paper chain that reminds them of something they did or might have done at each age. Then have students glue their chain together.
