Put Yourself in My Place
Before you complete this sheet, take some time to look again at the photos in the book. You have read the book, heard both the words of the photographer and the information provided by historian Russell Freedman. What details in the photos do you notice now that you did not see before? What do you imagine might be going through the minds of the children as they face the camera?
Choose one person from one of the photos and write a monologue for that child. (In a monologue, one person speaks his or her thoughts aloud, usually without interruption). Use what you learned from this book to make the words fit the child you have chosen.
