I. Hunters of the Buffalo
B. Once Europeans introduced guns and horses to the Indians,
in the late 1600s, they become more nomadic, following and hunting buffalo.
C. After the introduction of guns and horses, several different
tribes joined the Kiowa and Blackfoot living on the Plains.
II. Tribal Status
B. Most Plains Indian tribes were governed by a council of elders,
with several chiefs who led the tribe at different times.
C. Most Plains Indians believed that land could not be owned in the
way that white settlers owned land.
D. Plains Indians took part in numerous ceremonies, which were
important to their spiritual lives.
