    A. The Northern army greatly outnumbered the Southern army, and controlled 70 percent of all the railroads.

    B. The North had a strong navy which blocked Southern ports from moving goods and trade, and controlled Southern river traffic.

    C. The North could produce its own manufactured goods, but the South would lose both Northern and European goods during the war, because of the blockade of their ports.
