Traveling the Ancient World

Visit your school or local library or the Internet to learn about the goods found in ancient and medieval Europe, Arabia, India, Central Asia, and China. Find out what trade routes linked these areas. Add place names, physical features, trade routes, and product symbols to the map below. Create the map legend to explain your routes and symbols. Then use the map and your research notes to answer the questions below.

1. What products could be found in Europe, Arabia, India, Central Asia and China?

2. What methods of travel did early traders use to trade such goods? What physical challenges did early travelers overcome?

3. How would you compare trade and travel in ancient times with today?
