I. Luther Questions the Church
B. Luther posted his Ninety-Five Theses on the door of All Saints Church in Wittenburg.
C. Reformers protesting against the abuses of the Catholic church became known as Protestants.
II. The Reformation Begins
B. Luther went into hiding but continued to attack the church.
III. Protestantism Spreads
B. In 1546 war broke out between Catholic and Protestant princes in Germany.
C. The Peace of Augsburg in 1555 allowed each German prince to decide which religion would be allowed in his state.
D. The Reformation, the Protestant movement to reform the Catholic church, was established in much of Europe by 1560.
