The Big Idea
Framework Concepts: Interdependence Neolithic villages survived and grew by making, storing, and trading surplus food, tools, and other items.
- Explore with students the interdependence needed for the specialization of jobs. People freed from farming duties could create new tools which could help make even more food, tools, and trade items.

Check for Understanding
- Divide students into groups and assign each group a specific job within your Neolithic community: farmer, weaver, builder, etc. Have each group create a chart showing what its job is, on whom the group relies to accomplish its job, and who relies on the group to do other jobs.
- Have students create a chart showing how surplus food, tools, and other items helped Neolithic villages grow.
