The Big Idea
Framework Concept: Change The French, Dutch, and English explored the Western Hemisphere to find new trade routes and to acquire riches and territory.
- Based on what students have learned so far about Portuguese and Spanish exploration of the New World, ask them why they think the French, Dutch and English decided to send their own explorers.
- Locate France, the Netherlands, and England on a world map. Trace the routes the different explorers took and talk about the difficulties they might have had on their journeys.
