I. Growth of Cities

A. Farm workers left farms to work in the city.

II. Growth of the Middle Class

B. Middle-class citizens formed organizations to improve the cities.

C. Public transportation made it possible for people to move to the suburbs.

D. As families moved away from the cities, more businesses lined city streets.
