The Big Idea
Framework Concept: Interdependence Groups of inland people found ways to live in mountains, valleys, and deserts.
- Have students look at the illustration of the Miwok village on page 44. Using the text and illustration, make a list of the activities students see pictured. Discuss with them how this village life compares to their own community life.

- Have students write about a job they would like to do in the Miwok, Maidu, or Mojave village, and why. They should include how their job helps the community.
- Invite students to create a picture book, describing life in the Miwok, Maidu, or Mojave village. Students might divide the book into chapters and work on it in groups.
