Framework Concept: Conflict The United States declared war on Mexico and succeeded in gaining control of California.

Involve students in a discussion of the Bear Flag Revolt and the Mexican War. Students might form two sides in the discussion: the Bear Flaggers and the Californios. With them, discuss and make a chart of what each side lost or gained from the revolt and the war

In small groups, have students prepare a live broadcast of the coverage of the war and the treaty that followed it. Students can tape their broadcast and groups can compare their coverage.
