The Big Idea
Framework Concept: Interdependence The Miwok people lived together in a village over 200 years ago.

Have students look at the illustration of the Miwok village on page 45. Using the text and illustration, make a list of the activities students see pictured. Discuss with them how this village life compares to their own community life.

Check for Understanding

Have students write about which job they would like in the Miwok village and why. They should include how their job helps the community.
Invite students to create a mural depicting life in the Miwok village. Students might divide the mural into sections and work on it in groups.
