The Big Idea
Framework Concept: Interdependence Individuals and groups have found that by working together they can make positive changes that will impact California's environment.

Ask students to find the Coachella Valley on the map on page 303 in their texts. Discuss the problem and solution that was reached to save the fringe-toed lizard from becoming extinct. Have students give examples from their daily lives of how working together helps them solve problems. Make parallels to the way people worked together in the Coachella Valley.

Find out the address of your state representative. Have students write to him/her expressing their ideas and support for an environmental issue that is important to them.
