I. The Pilgrim's First Winter
B. They arrived at the beginning of the winter and had no shelter and little food.
C. Women and children stayed aboard the Mayflower. Men lived in rough huts, or even in holes dug into the sides of hills, so they could hunt for food.
D. The lack of fresh food and meat caused many people to die.
II. Help from the Wampanoag
B. The Wampanoag Indians taught the Pilgrims how to grow crops and how to hunt and fish.
C. The Pilgrims stored enough food to last them through the next winter.
D. The Pilgrims invited the Wampanoag to a Thanksgiving feast to thank God for their survival and the good harvest.
