Chapter 5, Lesson 2: The Medicine Dance (pp. 86-91)

I. The Cycle of Nature

A. The Cheyenne people noticed that when the grasses grew, the buffalo returned; when the grasses died, the buffalo left the plains.

B. The Cheyenne understood these changes in nature as a cycle of life.

C. The Cheyenne believed that there were great powers in nature called medicine.

D. To make sure the Cheyenne got help from these powers, they celebrated and honored nature with a Medicine Dance.

II. The Medicine Dance Tent

B. For days, the Cheyenne would feast and dance in ceremonies to celebrate the cycle of life.
