The Big Idea
Framework Concepts: Rights and Values Good citizenship is using the rights of citizenship and helping to make the community a better place to live.

Begin by asking students to think of one person in their community who they think is a good citizen and tell why they think so. Then conclude the discussion by listing actions that people can do to show that they are good citizens.

Check for Understanding

Ask students to write a letter to their state or Congressional representative listing things people can do to be good citizens.
Invite pairs or groups of students to take turns pantomiming an action they can do that shows they are a good citizen. Have other classmates guess what that action is.
