The Big Idea
Framework Concept: Rights Elected government leaders in a community give services to a town or city.

Begin by discussing an issue your community might have, such as providing a much needed gymnasium, park, or youth center. Ask students to talk about how their community might resolve that issue.

Ask students to name the leaders in their community. Ask them what each leader does.

Check for Understanding

Ask students to write the steps they could take to get a new park in their neighborhood.
Ask students to create an informational pamphlet that shows the different services that their community provides.
