Chapter 5, Lesson 2: The Medicine Dance (pp. 86-91)

I. The Cycle of Nature

A. The Cheyenne people noticed that when the grasses grew, the buffalo returned; when the grasses died, the buffalo left the plains.

B. The Cheyenne understood these changes in nature as a cycle.

C. The Cheyenne believed that there were great powers in nature called medicine.

D. To make sure the Cheyenne got help from these powers, they celebrated and honored nature with a Medicine Dance.

II. The Medicine Dance Tent

B. For days, the Cheyenne would feast and dance in ceremonies to celebrate the cycle of nature.
