The Big Idea
Framework Concept: Interdependence The Kwakiutl used the natural resources from the sea and forests for food, shelter, and clothing.
- Draw two webs entitled "Forest" and "Sea" and have students brainstorm a list of resources that could be used for food, shelter, and clothing in each web. As students read the chapter, have them add to the web and circle the things that the Kwakiutl villagers used for food and shelter.

Check for Understanding

- Students can draw a poster that shows life in a Kwakiutl village. As they explain their drawings, ask them to point to objects that come from the ocean or forest.
