Begin your study of prairies by discussing what grass feels like. Share with students that different prairies have different types of grass, and that some prairie grass grows taller that they do.

Check for Understanding

Have students pretend they are an animal that lives on the prairie. Ask them to write or tell what it is like to live there, how they eat, and how they protect themselves from predators.
Have students draw a prairie scene with animals and plants, and present their drawings to the class.
