The Big Idea
Framework Concept: Contributions Roberto Clemente helped others by visiting sick children, teaching young people, and trying to help earthquake victims.
- Ask students to share what they know about the baseball player, Roberto Clemente. Ask them how they think a famous baseball player can help others. Then ask them to tell why they think it is important to remember special people from the past.
- Brainstorm a list of famous people from the past that students know about such as sports figures, Mother Theresa, Princess Diana, and so on. Then have students choose which famous people they think helped others and tell why they think so.

- Ask students to complete this sentence:
Roberto Clemente was a special person because ____________.
Students can illustrate their sentences.
- Have students make a poster entitled "Remember Roberto Clemente" and illustrate it with pictures of things that he did to help others.
