I Know a Place
Lesson at a Glance
Unit 3, Lesson 3: The Bridge (pp. 90-95)
The Big Idea
Framework Concept: Urban Area As cities grow and change people are linked to other places.
- Write Long Ago/Now/Future on the board in chart form. Have students use the illustrations on pages 90-95 to tell ways the city looked long ago, now, and how they imagine it might look in the future. Ask volunteers to tell how changes in the city linked the people to other places.
Check for Understanding
- Have two students form a human bridge. As children pass under the bridge, have them tell who and what used the bridge in the lesson. You might have children alternate with one child telling about the bridge in the past and the next child about the bridge today.
- Have students make a postcard of the city before and after it grew.
