Lesson at a Glance
Unit 2, Lesson 4: Come to the Farm (pp. 42-45)
The Big Idea
Framework Concept: Location A poem describes the activities on a farm during the four seasons of the year.
- Discuss with children the five senses: see, touch, taste, hear, and smell. Take a picture walk through pages 42-45. Have children imagine what they might see, feel, hear, taste, and smell on the farm. List their ideas on chart paper under each season. Discuss how each season brings different smells, tastes, and sounds. Then read pages 42-45 together.
Check for Understanding
- Invite children to make their own word or picture web using the word farm as the center of the web. It might be helpful to model how students might begin the web.
- Have children make a farm mural showing activities on a farm during each of the four seasons. This is a good activity for children to use what they learned about working together from Unit 1, Lesson 2.
