I Know a Place
Lesson at a Glance
Unit 2, Lesson 1: Too Much Zucchini (pp. 22-27)
The Big Idea
Framework Concept: Location Children explore the places in a town and the people who live and work there.
- Draw a row of storefronts on the board. Invite children to name some of the shops and businesses they might see in a town. Write the names children mention on the storefronts. Then invite children to imagine they are inside one of the shops or businesses. What do they see? Who works there?
Check for Understanding
- Have children share their opinions about the places in the town described in "Too Much Zucchini." If possible, encourage them to write or draw a response to: Where would you visit if you went to the town in the lesson? Then have children share their writing or drawing and explain their choices.
- Have children draw themselves in a picture of the town they read about. Encourage them to add details that show the people and activities that are part of the life of the town.
