Lesson at a Glance
Unit 1, Lesson 2: Working Together (pp. 8-11)
The Big Idea
Framework Concepts: Respect and Opinions Children learn that working together involves planning, cooperation, and listening to the opinions of others.
- Have children plan an imaginary class party. Ask them to decide how they will plan the party, how they will involve everyone, and how they will work together to see that the party is a success. (You may want to put their ideas to work when planning the next real class party.)
Check for Understanding
- Invite children to create a class poem about some of the things they learned about working together. Begin the poem on chart paper:
Together, we can . . . .
Have children suggest responses. Add them to the chart as lines of the poem.
- Remind children that in the lesson too many children brought paper plates for the first party. Have children work together to make a picture list, showing a plan for an imaginary birthday party. Remind children to place the pictures in the correct order.
