In this activity students make a picture web to describe a place. Students discuss the characteristics of life in the country, in a suburb, and in a city. Students compare and contrast general environmental differences, and explore their immediate environment.

You can use an Assessment Rubric to assess students' mastery of the objectives.

WHAT YOU NEED

• Paper
• Magazines
• Scissors
• Glue
• String

1. Write "City" or "Suburb" or "Country" on the paper.

2. Find pictures of things from that place. Examples are:
   • kinds of jobs
   • animals
   • buildings

3. Glue pictures on the paper.

4. Connect the picture to the word with string.

• Describe the special things you find in a city, suburb, or country.
• Compare your home to the place described in the picture web.
