Space-Station Personal Gear Planner

Room is limited on a space station. Assume that your personal gear must fit into a locker that measures about 30 cm x 30 cm x 30 cm (1 ft x 1 ft x 1 ft). All of your personal needs must fit into that limited area. What would you bring for a two-week stay at the station?

Make a packing list of specific items that you would want in each of the following categories. Add other categories of your own. Keep in mind the types of things that would or would not be useful in the space-station environment you're designing.

  • Clothing
  • Toiletries
  • Items for personal research or study
  • Items for recreation or entertainment

As you make your own personal list, also work with your group to list some of the items that would be supplied by the space station, so that you would not have to include them in your personal gear. A few such items are listed below. Add more items to the inventory that are identified by your group.

  • Oxygen
  • Water
  • Food for basic meals
  • Space suits for EVAs
