Resources of the Rain Forest (continued)

In addition to the huge variety of plants and animals that live in the rain forest, many people make their home there. All these living things are part of the rain forest environment, and they all depend on each other for existence. Destroying one part of this system can affect the other parts.

Here are some things you can do to help save tropical rain forests.

  • Do not buy wood products made out of trees from the rain forest.
  • Do buy products such as tropical fruits, nuts, oils, teas, spices, and honey from the rain forest.
  • Recycle! Avoid buying products that are not recyclable. The raw materials used to make new products often come from trees and mines found in rain forests.
  • Save energy. Ride your bike or walk whenever possible. Turn off lights when they are not needed. Conserving energy reduces the need for oil exploration and dams, both of which can damage rain forests.
  • Join a group that is working to save the rain forests.
