Writing a Moon Base Story

Here are some questions you may want to think about as you write a story about your Moon base:

  • What kinds of jobs will people have at your Moon base? For example, you may need an engineer to run the life-support equipment, a doctor to keep people healthy, and a pilot to fly a shuttle back and forth to Earth. Make a list of jobs for people who could play a role in your story.

  • What kinds of exciting things might happen to people at your Moon base? For example, what lunar conditions might cause trouble for them? What new discoveries might they make? What adventures might they have as they explore the Moon? What problems might they need to overcome as they set up their lunar community?

  • How would the people at your Moon base deal with their exciting event? If it's a problem, how would they solve it? If it's a discovery, how would they investigate it? What role would each person play in dealing with this event?

  • What conditions on the Moon will affect the outcome of the events in your story? What buildings on the base will be involved? Describe what life is like on the Moon as you write your story.

  • How can you present your Moon base story and model to the people who come to visit your class? Give each student in your group a role in telling the story and describing the model.
