Wagon Webs
(visual/kinesthetic)
Write these base words on the board:
hazard, zeal, desire, peril, pomp, joy, virtue, and riot.
Ask students to look up each word's meaning. Then have them draw eight covered wagons around a campfire that is labeled with the suffix -ous. Next, ask students to add -ous to each base word and to write the new words on the wagons. Allow them to use a class dictionary. Then have each student use a new word in a sentence.
