Climb the Mast  (oral/auditory) Ask students to work in threes: two players and a caller. They will need a long stick for the "mast." Explain the following rules: The caller says a spelling word. If Player 1 spells it correctly, he or she grabs the mast bottom with one hand. If Player 2 spells the next word correctly, he or she grabs the mast just above Player 1's hand. As players spell words, they move their hands up the mast. If they misspell a word, they cannot move. The player who reaches the top of the mast first wins. |
