Choosing Exact Words
(visual/auditory/kinesthetic)

Give students more practice by asking them to find exact words for the verb gather in their Thesaurus. They can make a card for each subentry: assemble, collect, group, and harvest. Then partners can create their own sentences that require one specific subentry. Partners exchange papers and select the correct exact word on the card. Alternatively, you can provide practice sentences, such as
  1. The children gathered all the crayons into one box. collected
  2. Farmers gathered corn into huge silos. harvested
  3. In my closet all the shirts are gathered into one area. grouped
  4. My uncle gathered the puzzle pieces before he tried to put it together. assembled
