Word Windows
(visual/auditory/kinesthetic)
Ask pairs of students to play a game of Word Windows.
Give each student five index cards and a different block of five spelling words to write (e.g., Basic Words 1–5 or 11–15; Review Words 21–25; or Challenge Words 26–30).
Students write a different assigned spelling word on each card, and then turn each card over and rewrite the word, drawing a box in place of the letter(s) that spell the word's short e or long e vowel sound.
Students take turns holding up the "word window" side of each card for the partner to tell the missing letter(s).
