Cooking Up Exact Words
(visual/kinesthetic)

Have children look up cook in their Thesaurus and find two long o words (toast, roast) as well as other exact words for cook. Ask them to choose one word and look it up in a dictionary. Have children draw a cooking implement to represent their word, then write the word on their drawing along with the dictionary definition and a sentence. Children may want to cut out their pictures and post them on a bulletin board or on the class word wall.
