Take the "A" Train
(visual/ kinesthetic)
Have children draw a train that has an engine and several cars, or have them construct one using materials such as empty milk cartons, small boxes, and small bottle lids.
Ask children to look up a long a word, such as afraid, brave, make, or say, in their Thesaurus. Have them write the entry word on the train engine. On each car, have them write one synonym and a sentence that uses the synonym.
