Synonym Game
(oral/auditory)

In this game, one player tries to get a partner to say a particular word by naming synonyms or related words.

Have one child find a word in their Thesaurus that is spelled with a consonant cluster. This player names synonyms listed for the entry word. For example, the child might say "crack," "shatter," and "smash," trying to get his or her partner to say "break." If the partner guesses the correct word, he or she should then spell it aloud.

Children can play this game in teams, taking turns giving word clues and scoring one point for each word their partner guesses and spells correctly.
