Word Sort
(visual/oral/kinesthetic)
Have partners write their spelling words and other short a words they know on word cards. Partners can then sort the words into groups, using categories that they determine. For example, children might sort the words by the number of letters, the beginning or ending sounds, the part of speech, or the meaning of the word. After completing one sort, have partners read the words in each group. Then suggest they try to sort the words another way, using different categories.
