Friendship Quilt

Social Studies/Art

Children will create a patchwork "quilt" made of individual scenes of friendship which they have drawn.

What You Need

  • Sheets or squares of drawing paper
  • Markers or crayons
  • Large sheets of construction paper for background
  • Glue
  • Shredded paper and stapler (optional)

What To Do

  1. Invite children to sketch a picture that illustrates friendship. Suggest that children think of activities they do with their friends, how they communicate with friends, and places they go with friends.
  2. Distribute paper squares to children for their finished drawings. Explain that the squares will be put together for a friendship quilt.
  3. (Optional) For a quilted appearance, staple a blank sheet to the back of the drawing on three sides. Pad the interior of the two sheets with shredded paper and staple the last side.
  4. Glue the drawings to a colored construction paper background and display the finished "quilt" in the classroom.
