Going to Greenland
Science/Oral Language
Children will play a game in which they identify different-colored objects to take on an imaginary trip.
What You Need
- Creative imaginations
What To Do
- Tell children they are going to go on an imaginary trip to Greenland, but first they are going to have to pack. Tell children that the suitcases they are taking on their trip are huge, so they can take anything they want, but each thing has to be a certain color.
- Start the game by modeling, saying:
I'm going to Greenland, and I'm taking something red.
I'm going to take an apple. - Then start the next verse, changing the color. Call on different children to finish the second line by naming something that is the color you named in the first line.
- Once each child has had at least one turn naming something to take on the trip, have the children line up, pretending they're holding suitcases. As you all march in a line, chant, "Oh, we're going to Greenland. Off to Greenland we go!"
