Grade 4 Houghton Mifflin Reading

My Hero

Social Studies

Students will research heroes they admire and then tell the world about them via the Internet.

What You Need

  • Access to the Internet and reference books

What To Do

  1. Guide students to the Web site My Hero (http://myhero.com). After checking out the site, click on the "Participate" link.
  2. Ask each student to nominate a person they think should be included on the site, and have them prepare a short essay explaining why that person is a hero. Ask students to present their nominees to the class.
  3. Take a vote to choose the most "heroic" hero. Using the resources at the My Hero site, create a Web page for that hero. (If there's time, you can do the same for more than one hero.)
