True or False Quiz Show
Drama
Students will compete in a quiz show in which they answer true or false questions based on the stories in this theme.
What You Need
- A quiz show "stage" at the front of the classroom. (This might consist of a table and chairs for two contestants and a separate stand or podium for the host.)
- TEAM A and TEAM B contestant signs
- Index cards
What To Do
- Divide the class into two teams: Team A and Team B. Tell students that the teams will compete against each other in a quiz show, with each team asking the other team true or false questions about the stories in this theme. Write this model question and answer on the board:
(Question) True or false? The girl in Raising Dragons lived in a city.
(Answer) False. The girl lived on a farm. - Give each team enough index cards so that each team member has one card. Then tell the team members to work together quietly to think up a series of true/false questions about facts found in the theme's stories. Each questionin the form modeled on the boardshould be written on one side of a card, and the answer should be written on the other side. Point out that false answers should be briefly explained. Remind the teams to keep checking their questions to be sure they're not duplicating any. To help students generate their questions and answers, let them skim the theme's stories.
- Post the TEAM A and TEAM B signs in the place where the contestants are to sit or stand.
- Once the teams' index cards are prepared (each team member should be holding one of them), ask each team to select its first contestant. Direct the contestants to take their positions at the front of the room. Then ask a member of Team B to act as a temporary host, and to read his or her question to the Team A contestant. Remind the host to conceal the answer side of the card from the contestant. A correct answer earns a point for Team A. Play continues in this fashion, with contestants and hosts alternating, until every team member has had a chance to be both a contestant and a host.
- The team with the highest score at the end of the quiz show wins.
