Game Needs for The Path to Adventure
- You need either a spinner with the numbers 1 through 6 on it or one of a pair of dice.
- Each player needs a game marker. You might use different colors of buttons or paper clips, or even bottle caps. You could also make markers in different shapes or colors.
- You need a game board. You can make it from paper, cardboard, or tagboard. Begin by drawing a path, or trail, marked off in spaces. Write START at one end of the path and END at the other. Around the path, add pictures of things or events the characters from your assigned story might have seen.
- You also need two piles of game cards. In one pile, label one side of each card OOPS! Label one side of the other pile's cards HOORAY! Then write messages like these on the blank side of the cards:
- OOPS! might have a card that says, "Wendell, Floyd, and Mona chose the wrong tunnel in the Lost and Found. Go back 2 steps." Or: "The invaders knocked Mulan off her horse. Go back 3 steps." Or: "The boy rubbed against poison oak while hiking to the waterfall. Go back 1 step."
- HOORAY! might have a card that says, "Mona found her lucky hat! Move ahead 2 steps." Or: "Mulan was made a general. Move ahead 3 steps." Or: "The boy climbing the falls found a willow to use as a grip. Move ahead 1 step."
