Creature Collage

Children will create a class book of animal collages.

What You Need

  • Construction paper
  • Cardboard
  • Hole punch and yarn
  • Pictures from magazines with animal photography, such as National Geographic, Zoobooks, Ranger Rick, and My Big Backyard
  • Scissors
  • Glue

What To Do

  1. Discuss with children different ways of categorizing animals (for example, pets, farm animals, endangered animals, predators).
  2. Have children cut out of magazines pictures of animals in one or more categories.
  3. Children glue the animal cutouts onto a sheet of construction paper in a collage.
  4. Encourage children to write on the page one or more sentences about the animals.
  5. Put together children's animal collages in a book with an introduction that the class can write together.
