Grade 4 Houghton Mifflin Reading

Amazing Art

Art

Students will find and describe examples of amazing, or surreal, art.

What You Need

  • Access to the Internet or art reference books.

What To Do

  1. Guide students to a museum Web site such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York (http://www.moma.org) or to art museum books or other art reference books.
  2. Ask students to find examples of “amazing” art—depictions of landscapes, animals, people, or things that are exaggerations or distortions of real life.
  3. Have students write a descriptive paragraph explaining how the artwork differs from “real life.” If possible, have them show the artwork to the class as they share their paragraphs; otherwise ask them to sketch a copy of the artwork for the class to see.
