American Images
Art
Students will collect photographic images of places and people across the United States and put them together in a collage.
What You Need
- Old magazines and newspapers
- Poster board or other firm backing on which to glue pictures
What To Do
- Tell students that a collage is made by arranging pictures together, sometimes overlapping one another.
- Have groups of students look through old magazines and newspapers to find and cut out pictures of different parts of the country and the people who live there, gathering as many diverse images as possible. Have students plan the best way to arrange their photos and then glue them to poster board to make a collage.
- Ask each group to present its collage to the class; have students explain why they chose the images they used to represent the United States.
